Shredders - Which One to Choose

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By Val Scaresbrook Why shred? When piles of prunings pose a problem, sort it with a shredder — it’s the business for converting heaps to handfuls. Then what? Add them to the compost heap, spread them around shrubs, or make a trip to the tip. The ideal shredder Our ideal shredder has all of these features:Versatility to deal with thick prunings and soft waste.Inlet wide enough to take branched prunings, so no trimming to fit is needed.Inlet at a convenient height.Purpose-made prodder for pushing twiggy material down onto the blades.Large enough motor to deal with the workload.Overload cutout to protect the motor from damage.Wide outlet to reduce the risk of jamming.Speedy processing of material.Material drawn in steadily instead of being snatched out of your hand.Shreddings are easily composted slivers or crushed chunks of material (some shredders chop rather than shred, which is OK if you just want to reduce the volume before going to the tip).Wheels for mobility.Long enough cable to reach the mains socket.Secure cable connection.Controls that you can operate with gloved hands.Reverse-action blades for quickly clearing jams without having to expose the blades.Easy access to blades for cleaning/replacement.Safety switches to prevent operation when the blades are exposed.Quiet operation to protect your hearing and avoid disturbing everyone else.Replacement blades readily available. The pros and cons of hiring a shredder Hiring a machine makes sense if you’ve space to pile up the prunings ready for a mammoth shredding session a few times each year. For a smooth-running day, make sure that the machine’s been overhauled since last being used, and insist on having the instruction booklet (it’s best to arrange this in advance so it’s ready for you). ProsCheaper than buying - if you only have a few days’ work for it every year.Access to meaty models that you wouldn’t dream of buying.Heavy duty models for speedy throughput.Petrol-engined models for use whatever the weather (unlike electrical ones). An opportunity to try before you buy.Save storage space. No maintenance costs.Delivery to your door sometimes possible.Supplied assembled and ready to go. ConsSmaller hire outlets only have limited choice — maybe a too small domestic machine, or a too large industrial type. May not be available at short notice.May be inefficient or ineffectve due to blunt blades, general wear, or abuse by other hirers. Are You Capable Of Doing More In Your Relationship?

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Mark Webb Character changes may be needed. You may have to stretch your present limits to find out what your true capabilities are. If you believe that you currently exemplify the model of greatness then I congratulate you. Please realize though, that you are always capable of more. This is an ongoing process of strength and love. This is sometimes physical strength but primarily mental and emotional muscles. Spiritual growth is also required. Ask yourself, What am I capable of? What is your answer? Decide that whatever your answer may be that you are willing to push that answer to a greater level. You must be willing to stretch.Wishy-washy efforts will not produce results. You are expected to push yourself, not only by myself but also by your partner and anyone else who may have an interest in the future of this relationship. What are you willing to do? Before I asked what are you capable of, now I am asking about your level of willingness. You need to expect a certain amount of suffering on your part. Growth always involves a certain degree of pain. Anything less than Im willing to do whatever it takes attitude will hinder your progress. Be clear about this. Do not monkey around with this initial groundwork. I specialize in helping couples in the worst kind of shape. I know what I am talking about. So do not argue, just commit yourself. Achieving greatness also asks the question, How much are you willing to commit to this relationship? This question separates the serious ones from the big talkers. Unless you are willing to commit the overwhelming majority of yourself to this relationship then you will not get your breakthrough you desire. You must be willing to get hurt. The risk is always present anyway but when you open up your heart to new standards, you can get hurt. Your partner may not be as committed as you are but do not let that hinder you. Im not so much asking that you commit everything but I am suggesting that your commitment range be from 80% on up.Pushing yourself beyond your present limits requires that I come back to a previously asked question but with greater expectation. What more are you capable of? When you think you have given all that you can, you must ask yourself, Is there anything else that I can do? Do you have greater efforts within you? For A Flourishing Business Take Secured Business Loan

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Tim_Kelly]Tim Kelly Business people often require funds for running a new business or for expending the established one. They need to finance different expenses at low cost also which is crucial in any business. This is where secured business loan becomes all important as the loan has lower interest rate attached to it and terms-conditions are kept easier. Every business person either small or bigger is equally eligible for the loan. There are numerous business usages that the secured business loan can be borrowed for like buying machinery or equipment, raw material, office furniture or paying off various bills. The loan can be taken for buying assets. As is clear by the term, secured business loan has to be secured before the lender offers the required amount as loan. For securing the loan, business persons can place home or any business property that has good amount of equity in it, as collateral. With the loan well secured, business persons are on driving seat in deciding terms-conditions in their favor. Business persons are allowed to borrow any amount under secured business loan, though a lot depending on higher equity in the collateral. Usually the loan comes in the range of 50000 to 1000000. Lenders are ever willing to offer the loan at lower interest rate which business persons are always looking for. If the business persons take advantage of cut throat competition in the loan market and search for the suitable loan package, the interest rate gets reduced further. Another way to avail secured business loan at reduced interest rate is that business person should borrow an amount that is below the equity in the collateral. This way the loan is more secured for availing reduction in interest rate. It is very convenient to pay back the loan. Because of security, the loan can be returned in 5 to 30 years. This vast duration is enough for business persons to establish a new business or give boost to established one. In case business people are labeled bad credit, secured business loan is still available to them. As the loan has to be secured, bad credit of the business person does not worry lenders in offering even larger loan. In case of payment default, lender can sell the borrowers property to recover loaned amount. So bad credit people may apply for the loan without hesitation. Secured business loan is thus a great help in taking a low cost loan for starting or expanding business. Better apply online for the loan as numerous loan providers approach you and you can compare them for lowest possible interest rate and other conditions. Also, ensure that you pay off monthly installments in time to avoid any debt accumulation. Hand Feeding your Koi

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Brett Fogle One of the most rewarding and entertaining things about having a Koi pond is when your fish finally start eating out of your hand. There is no better way to learn each fishes’ personality and temprament than to have them nuzzle your fingers when they are hungry. The key to training your Koi to eat from your hand is patience and conditioning. Like any wild animal Koi have a natural distrust for anything that they think can hurth them, and you’re plenty big enough to do that as far as they are concerned. If your goal is hand feeding then you need to start training from the very first time that you feed a new fish. Of course, it’s not too late to start training your existing fish, but it’s easier if you start out that way. If you have been feeding your fish by simply broadcasting the food on top of the water then stop doing that immediately. Instead, bring your feed bag next to the pond and kneel down. Then, place a few pellets in your hand, submerge your hand, and let the pellets slowly fall out. Don’t worry if your fish seem to not be paying attention. They know that your hand is in the water and they know that pellets just appeared out of nowhere. Eventually one or two will swim up and eat. When that happens, the rest of them will follow. Continue slowly dropping pellets from your hand until you have fed your normal amount. Repeat that process for about a week. The following week, set up as you did last week, but this time submerge your hand and hold the pellets in your slightly cupped palm. Hold your hand steady and don’t make any movements. Eventually at least one fish should come over and eat from your hand. It is essential that you do not make any quick movements while this is happening. Remove your empty hand and repeat the process. If the fish will not approach your hand to feed, then do not fedd them that day. They won’t starve to death, believe me, and they will be a little bit more likely to eat form your hand the next time that you offer them food. Once you have them to the point that they will eat form your palm, it is time to teach them to take the food directly from your finger tips. Simply grasp a pellet, submerge your hand, and wait untilt he boldest fish approaches. Once he eats the others will follow. If they don’t you know what do to. Justfeed the ones that will eat from your hand and let the others miss a meal. Hunger is a great motivator for Koi… Once you have your Koi eating out of your hands you can alternate between normal feeding and hand feeding for those times when you’re in a rush and just can’t sit down and enjoy your fish. ************************************************ Brett Fogle is the owner of MacArthur Water Gardens and several pond-related websites including macarthurwatergardens.com and pond-filters-online.com. Top 10 First Date Blunders

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Niquenya Fulbright It’s Friday night and you’re all geared up to go on that important first date. You haven’t dated in awhile and are pretty nervous that you’ll screw things up. How do you keep from making a complete arse of yourself and more importantly, make it to that seemingly out-of-reach second date? I have compiled a list of some simple tips to prevent you from making the most common costly first date blunders.Do not talk about your ex. It is very unattractive to tell your date all about the exes and what they did or didn’t do or how they did it. It really is a turnoff and drops your date’s interest level. I’ll take it a step further and say don’t even discuss your great platonic bowling partner friend to whom you confide all your problems to. Your date will clearly see this person as a possible threat and who wants to begin a relationship in a competition? You want to keep the date as romantic and light as possible. Speaking of light, keep the heavy dramatic topics out of the conversation. Nobody wants to hear the gloom and doom of how you think the world will end due to global warming or why Bush is doing a terrible job. It is incredibly boring to discuss the current rise in interest rates and the way your boss is giving it to you in the rear end. Everything that comes out of your mouth should be positive and upbeat. Do not brag. It really is unimportant how much you have stowed away in your 401K and how your Jag gets 34 miles per gallon. We’ve all heard it a million times before so let that aspect of your life be discovered. It’s okay to highlight a choice few of your accomplishments but don’t oversell yourself. You’re not on commission.Do not get all touchy-feely. It’s creepy and offensive. You’re not at the point where you can take those freedoms so keep your hands to yourself. No pats on the back, arms around the shoulders, or hands on the knee. These things will come in due time so don’t rush the touching. This stage has to arrive as a natural progression in the relationship.Do not talk about sex. It’s distasteful and downright tacky. Everyone has heard all the libido stories and the dirty jokes. Keep it classy and sophisticated. You’re an adult so you should know by now that it is completely unnecessary to drone on about what a champion lover you are. If you’re so good, your date will find out eventually.Be prepared. While spontaneity is a really nice attribute, it doesn’t bode well for first dates. You should have a well-thought out plan of what you will be doing, when and where. Know your budget and plan accordingly. Make dinner reservations and purchase theater tickets ahead of time. It is embarrassing to arrive at your destination just to find out its packed to capacity and/or sold out. Give yourself enough travel time in between locations. And whatever you do, don’t be late in picking her up. And ladies, I know it’s tempting, but it really is a tiresome habit to keep him waiting for the sake of being “fashionably late.” Be ready at least 10 minutes prior to the time he is scheduled to arrive.Do not be cheap. Guys, make sure you have enough in your pocket to cover the date including any customary tips and incidentals. And just so we’re clear, it isn’t cute to skimp out on tipping your waiter/waitress because your water was 2 degrees warmer than you would have liked it or any other cockamamie excuse you think your date will find funny. She won’t. You will look like a jackass and nobody wants to be with a jackass. A proper gratuity is 10% of the total bill. And ladies, just because your date is expected to foot the bill doesn’t mean you should come empty-handed. If you’re going dutch, then of course that’s self-explanatory, but if he’s paying the check, you should at least offer to leave the tip. Besides, didn’t your mother always tell you to keep some change just in case?Don’t be cruel to the wait staff. As I said in the previous tip, your date will not find it funny. This is really childish behavior and I’m sure you don’t want to come off as immature. So, please, don’t be overly demanding and difficult towards your wait staff. Be courteous and polite at all times and treat them like the human beings they are. As the old saying goes, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.Use proper etiquette. Pigs eat slop. People eat meals with silverware and use napkins. Save another time to let your date “pull your finger” and keep the gaseous eruptions to a minimum. Eat at a reasonable pace that allows for conversation without a mouthful of food seeping from the sides of your lips. And ladies, don’t order the most expensive item on the menu just for the sake of its price tag and don’t starve yourself in an attempt to keep from looking like a glutton. If you’re hungry, eat. He’d much rather see you enjoy your meal than watch you scrunch up your face in agony of your efforts to disguise the loud rumbles erupting from your tummy.Last, this really should go without saying but, do not overindulge in alcoholic beverages. A first date is not the time to show off how well you can handle your liquor. The combination of first date jitters and ten beers can be fatal to any possibility of a second date. You should be well aware of your surroundings and in full possession of your faculties. You don’t want to be so uninhibited that you forget your manners so keep it to a three cocktail maximum. The first date can be a horrific, terrifying, grueling, romantic, exciting, fun and memorable experience. You will most likely be a bottle of nerves and make many mistakes throughout your special night but so will your date. Just remember these tips and be yourself. After all, the hardest part was getting the date in the first place. Niquenya Fulbright is a professional life coach specialing in sex, love, dating and relationships. Education Loan - What You Need To Know

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Alan_Ross]Alan Ross The strength of the United States is not the gold at Fort Knox or the weapons of mass destruction that we have, but the sum total of the education and the character of our people - Claiborne Pell Education loan is perhaps the most noble loans of all considering that the loan is going to create and grow a student into a responsible future citizen who can contribute to the society in a big way. American college graduates have earned $1million more than high school graduates during their entire career. This simple statistic is enough to underline the significance of education. What one must not forget, in the brouhaha of course, is that college education is quite an investment in ones future even after considering the huge expenses involved. Where and How of Education Loan in America The Federal Government has various student aid and loan programs, to help pay for both undergraduate and graduate education, which it helps get at low rate of interests. Here are some of them. 1. Federal Perkins Loan: This is a low interest loan (5%) and the school is the lender to which you payback. Maximum amount you can draw as an undergraduate is $4000 per year and $6000 per graduate student per year. The total amounts in each case being $20,000 and $40,000 respectively. Barring late charges there are no other charges. 2. William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program: An FSA program for after high school students where Department of Education is the lender. You have 2 programs, Stafford- for students and PLUS- parents. PLUS loans offered through FFEL have banks and private lenders to provide. 3. Consolidation loans: Direct loans can be consolidated for reduced and easy monthly repayment through this loan. 4. All private banks: Banks have countless schemes which are more or less similar to Federal schemes. How Much Loan Should I BorrowHere students and parents should sit and plan the amount to be borrowed. You can calculate loan amount in two ways. One: using an online calculator; the other way is compiling it yourself. Compiling the loan amount is not difficult with certain amount of homework. Some tips here. 1. Decide on the course and college. Public colleges charge about 1/4th of private colleges in tuition fees for 4 years degree and half of it for 2 years degree. 2. There is additional Out-of-District State Charges in case of 4 year public colleges which run into about $7000. 3. There are sundry expenses including board, books etc which run into $10,000 in both the cases. Once you are through with calculation, visit the lender or its website for information on documentation and application. Alan Ross is a regular article contributor on many topics. 15 Hair Care Myths - The Truth and The Lies

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

By Michael Barrows Everyone has a favourite myth about hair care and we usually never let the truth get in the way of a good legend! This article examines some of the most widely known - and the reality behind the myths. 1. Excessive washing of hair causes hair loss/dryness. FALSE: Frequency of washing doesnt harm hair. Wash it as often as you like, although the recommendation is three times a week. The right shampoo for your hair type and texture will actually add moisture, body and beauty to your hair. 2. More shampoo = cleaner hair. FALSE: Dont waste your shampoo! A dollop of shampoo, about the size of a quarter is usually enough for long hair. Very long hair may take a little more. 3. Conditioner helps repair split ends. FALSE: No conditioner can “repair” damaged hair. What it can do is smooth down the cuticle and make hair seem in better condition. A good conditioner can also prevent damage from occurring in the first place. 4. Blow-drying produces hair loss. FALSE: Blow-drying can damage, burn or dry hair, which can cause it to fall, but the hair will grow back immediately. This is not permanent hair loss. 5. Sleeping with wet hair causes scalp fungus. FALSE: Scalp or fungal diseases cant be caught from sleeping with wet scalps. Scalp infections require prior involvement with infected sources such as humans, tainted hair care tools or animals. Scalp fungus (tinea capitis) mainly affects children, whose immune systems make them more susceptible to skin infections. 6. To get your hair to grow, brush 100 strokes each day. FALSE: Brushing that much can damage the hair cuticle. NOT recommended! Actually, your hair reacts better to a comb than a brush. Brushing it will only lead to split ends and hair breakage. 7. Sharing combs and brushes can spread scalp diseases. TRUE: Lice and other parasites can be transported from scalp to scalp through the sharing of combs, brushes and other hair care tools. 8. Cutting hair makes it grow faster and/or thicker. FALSE: This common misconception comes from the fact that hair is thicker at the base than it is at the tip, so shorter hair appears thicker at first. Cutting your hair does not affect its normal biologically determined growth rate or overall texture. Thin, limp or fine hair will not ever grow thicker in response to a haircut. Plump up your hair by using volume enhancing hair care products, experimenting with a hair fattening blunt cut or getting a texturizing perm or color treatment. 9. Color treatment causes hair loss. FALSE: Most hair coloring products contain chemicals that can do serious harm to the hair itself if not properly used, but it wont instigate hair loss. 10. Salon products are identical to drugstore products. FALSE: Although there are exceptions, salon products generally contain higher quality, more expensive ingredients that are designed to consistently provide more intensive cleansing, moisturizing and conditioning results. The quality ingredients found in salon products are not usually found in drugstore brands. If in doubt read the labels. 11. Long sun exposure favors hair loss. FALSE: Your hair acts as a shield against the sun. Hair loss appears at the follicle level and so the sun would have to penetrate at this depth to do any damage. 12. Diet is related to hair loss. TRUE: it’s important to eat right in order to be generally healthy. However, no individual food has been proven to be beneficial or detrimental to hair. 13. Stress causes hair loss. TRUE: Severe stress (e.g. surgery or a death in the family), can shut down hair production, causing temporary hairloss (alopecia areata). The scalp usually recuperates, though, and hair grows back 14. Wearing tight braids, ponytails or buns causes baldness. TRUE: Traction alopecia is a very real hair loss condition that is quite common amongst older African American women. It results from wearing tight ponytails, cornrows or buns over an extended period of time. Over time, hair breakage or loss as the result of tight, stressed styles, can become permanent. Avoid this potential problem by opting for looser styles that minimize scalp tension. 15. Smoking causes gray hair. TRUE: According to J. G. Mosley of the Leigh Infirmary in Lancashire, England in an article in Science News (January 11, 1997) smokers are four times more likely to have gray hair than non-smokers. Even worse, smoking has been conclusively linked to accelerated hair loss. SUMMARY Heard another myth about hair? Do your research ask an expert! This doesnt include your grandmother, best friend or local barmaid. Instead, talk to an experienced hairdresser or a trichologist. Always get the real facts before you act on any hair myths you owe it to your hair. (With thanks to Daniel Mcullough and Karen M. History Reports: When Your Resume Equals, “I Did This, I Did This, I Did This”

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

By Steven Bristow Do these sound familiar? I worked for My responsibilities were My duties included Does a prospective employer care about what you did for other companies? Of course they do, but that doesnt mean thats what they really want to know. Conducting a job search is a marketing campaign, moreover, a sales process, not your personal history lesson. Do you consider obtaining a position a sales process? If not, you should. There are many ways to make a sale but all of them include a marketing campaign. Your resume is your marketing tool. It is your most important marketing tool. Make sure your marketing tools reflect what you bring to a company, not what you once brought to other companies. Does a hiring manager care about what your duties were in a position you had 10 years ago? Maybe, if they are associated with a position you are seeking. Is a hiring manager more concerned with your abilities to handle the duties of their open position? You betcha! Any professional marketer or salesman will tell you that building value is key when conducting a sale. How do I build value in a resume?, you may be asking. When it comes to a resume, there are several ways. Certainly you want to include prior responsibilities, but you may also want to expound on them as well (assuming that they are applicable to the position you are applying for). List the duties and responsibilities of applicable positions Showcase successes with each of these duties. Because of your efforts, did revenue increase? Did profitability? Did your efforts result in streamlining costs? Did you save your prior company money? Articulate an ability to continue these successes with your next company. Show your next employer that you will excel at the position before they determine if you will. Remember, you are marketing yourself to these hiring managers, not just telling them what you have done. The concept of an effective resume is to look at it from a readers point of view, not a writers point of view. Does a prospective employer care about what youve done for others? Or what you can do for them? Steven Bristow is a senior consultant for R.L. Stevens & Associates Inc. How to Design an Irresistible Tradeshow Booth

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

By Patty Stripes Once youve made the decision to go on the trade show circuit, suddenly your heart starts pounding, you feel a little dizzy. Now you have to have a trade show booth! Questions start swirling through your head and you get a somewhat queasy feeling in your stomach. Relax. You already have the key to a compelling trade show booth: your company. Now all you have to do is come up with a design that fits it. Before you start panicking again, think about your letterhead and logo (you do have those, right? RIGHT?). Usually, companies will use the same colors and many of the same graphics they use in their marketing materials for the foundation of their trade show booth design. These are essential parts of a great trade show booth because you want the booth to stay within the overall branding of your company. Now think color. You want to reel them in, and one of the easiest ways to do this is to have an invitingor boldtrade show booth out there on the floor. You want to keep the colors balanced for aesthetic appeal. If your logo is primarily red, then go all out and use a red and black color scheme. Red and black are power colors that make people sit up, or in this case, walk up, and take notice. Which is exactly what you want them to do. Bright, cheerful colors do well in trade show booth designs because they signify energy and class. What if your colors are less bold, more pastel, even white and black? These are great too! Especially when everyone elses trade show booths are shouting COLOR! COLOR! COLOR! One of the most successful trade show booths ever for a Fortune 500 company was white and pale gray, with hints of red and black set against some gorgeous visuals. Why? With small, some simple spotlights highlighting the visual panels of the booth and a little greenery carefully arranged in front of the trade show booth, along with a matching carpet of pale gray and a couple of folding directors chairs, this trade show booth was a virtual oasis in a sea of color noise. And people literally flocked to it. Because it was different. And thats another way to have an extremely effective, powerful trade show booth design. Get sneaky! Find out what your competitions up to. Then do the opposite! This is a sure way to compel people to your booth. Youll stand out and people will just have to find out why, what youre up to. Of course, once you reel people over to your killer trade show booth, you want to be sure theyre compelled to stick around! This is where your staff is vital. Cheerful, up-beat people, who enjoy dealing with the public and who KNOW YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE, are essential to a successful trade show booth. So make sure your staff is as appealing (and it wont hurt if they have a bit of the old carney in them!) as the trade show booth design that brought them there to begin with! Dinnertime Chatter

Sunday, September 16th, 2007

By Sue DeFiore One of the themes I see on the various internet boards I belong to is that children eat and run. First, whatever happened to manners. We were not allowed to leave the table without permission and unless it was an outright emergency we had to stay until everyone was done eating. Also, we used dinnertime to catch up on the days activities. When my dad wasnt there, my mom would ask my sister, brother and I how our day was. Did everything go well, any problems? WE COMMUNICATED. When my dad was home, he told us about his week and how things were in the city with our family and then we all got a chance to catch him up as to what we were doing (school, friends, after school activities). Even as we all got older, we still had to be home for Sunday dinner. It was mandatory. It was family time, my mom always tried to make the meal extra special. There was always give and take in my family. We all had a voice and our parents always listened to us. They might not have agreed with us, but they always listened to us. So try to make dinnertime a special time where your children can air their opinions and views, and really listen to them. You might be surprised what you discover about your children.
