Craigslist Censoring begs the Question - Is the Internet the last great Bastion of Free Speech?

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

By Sullivan Rob Free speech is one of the building blocks of any democratic society. Without free speech we, as citizens of the democratic society, would be subject to many forms of chastisement including personal attacks and even legal ramifications. This is why I for one like the Internet. You see, to me the Internet is one of the last great representations of true free speech. We are allowed to post as we see fit whether it is a comment in a forum or a blog post which gets syndicated around the world. In fact, many sites have made their livings from allowing the general public to freely post their viewpoints, both positive and negative. Apartmentratings.com has been sued before by angry landlords or building owners. This is a site which allows renters of apartments all over the US to post comments and ratings about the buildings they live in. Of course, many people are generally happy with their apartments but some are not, and arent afraid to let the world know. It is these negative posts which have gotten the site in trouble in the past even though the websites terms and conditions clearly state that the opinions expressed are not necessarily those of the website owners. Now, Ive talked to the owner of this site before and I dont think he should be held responsible for posts made on his site. In fact, I dont think its his responsibility to have to censor those who post there either. I believe the only responsibility this site has to the apartment buildings in question would be to supply information of a technical nature to them if they have the legal documentation to support their request. In other words, his only responsibility should be to supply IP addresses of those who have posted the offending remarks, and then let the apartment owner try and track down the anonymous posters. It really has nothing to do with the site in question. The reason Im bringing this up is because another well known site is currently being sued for a similar situation. CraigsList.org is now the subject of a legal battle because of posts made to their website. Apparently, someone posted an ad for an apartment rental and explicitly asked that certain minorities not apply because, according to the person who posted the ad, these people tend to clash with me so that wont work out. Now, heres the issue for me: Sure the guys post stated that there were certain races that he did not want to apply, but its not like he said I hate you all! Instead, he said that these people tended to clash with him. This isnt necessarily a racist comment, hes just stating his opinion based on his previous experience. In my mind, that doesnt necessarily make him a racist. What really bugs me is that Craigslist is now being held accountable for this persons post. Sure it may not have been in the best of taste, but have you seen some of the other postings on Craigslist? There are many other posts which, while they arent similar to this one, are of equally poor taste in my opinion. Yet they are allowed to continue to be hosted on Craigslist. You see, to me there are so many issues at play in this one simple post. Just consider the racism issue for a second. Who determines that it is racist? And how does one know if a post is indeed racist? Lets look at the apartment ratings site for a second. If I was to post there about an apartment complex that housed primarily white people and that was ok by me, would I then be considered a racist? If so, why would you consider me a racist? Because I said that it was ok that mostly white people lived there? Does that make me a racist or the apartment owner/manager for renting mostly to white people? Perhaps it is a community that has a small ethnic population does that mean that the towns fathers are racist because they are not allowing different ethnicities to reside there? When does the racist card stop being played? Racism aside, why should Craigslist have to censor its postings? Is there some acceptability threshold? Some common denominator that says your post is OK but mine isnt? This then leads to the larger issue of who decides what is common decency? If the community as a whole should decide what is acceptable, why is it then up to the private business (in this case Craiglist) to enforce that common decency protocol? Because this is a privately run, for-profit business it should be up to them to decide how to run their business. I dont think Google actively filters racist sites from its search results, so why arent they being sued because that content is also freely and easily accessible through a Google search? In the end, I think if you are a believer in true freedom of speech with no strings attached, you must support sites like Craigslist and Apartmentratings. Because if you dont, you never know where the government or lawyers will stop. Before you know it our Internet could be as heavily censored as Chinas. And then where will democracy live? Advocating Avocado Pears

Monday, November 26th, 2007

By Kit Heathcock Avocadoes are back in season hurrah! All summer Ive been looking at the exorbitantly priced sad-looking specimens in the shops, refusing to buy, as I know theyll be disappointing. At the end of summer the price starts dropping, then come bargain bags of ten and you know that the season is back in full swing, the fruits will ripen to perfection in a few days (they have to be bought still hard, or they squish in the shopping bag before you get them home). Once ripe, the creamy, mellow flesh is best eaten simply. Perhaps cut in half with olive oil and salt or a dash of vinaigrette dressing or just spread on bread. The avocado is one of the few green things that my children will reliably eat. Though I am a bit wary of making these sweeping statements, as they are quite capable, for no apparent reason, of turning against an old favourite, especially if it constitutes healthy eating. This, the avocado most certainly does. It is a rich source of Vitamin E, also contains a good amount of Vitamins B6 and C, potassium and is high in monounsaturated fats, which help lower cholesterol. So throughout the winter I know that they are getting all these nutrients in their diet. Avocados go well in sandwiches, turning an otherwise dull filling into something luscious. Partner with bacon or Marmite, salad or cold chicken. My children will pick the chunks of avo from a salad, leaving the rest for me, sans avo. Another great way of using ripe avocadoes in season is as a dip. Mash them with a squeeze of lemon, a few drops of Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper and perhaps a drop of chilli sauce, provide some chips or nachos to scoop with and itll be gone in no time. My husband remembers having avocado breakfasts as a child. Just avos and a selection of fillings to dollop in the centre and eat with a spoon. Coming from a country where the avocado was considered exotic in the Seventies, I remember it being served as a highly desirable starter filled with prawns in a pink mayonnaise, when we were taken out to dinner as a treat. Maybe its back in fashion again retro chic. Those avocadoes never attained the creamy, voluptuous texture of a truly ripe avo though. The long journey from sunnier climes, in refrigerated containers, left you with the choice of eating them a bit too firm or else by the time they felt soft to the touch they had already turned black inside. Now were lucky enough to live in a country where they grow and can wait to eat them until the perfect creaminess has been reached. Im watching my first bag of the season carefully, gleaming darkly green in their bowl, like a clutch of eggs in a nest, for the first signs of ripenessthen we feast! Art Shows And Festivals - 7 Strategies When Choosing Where To Sell Your Art

Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Patti Diaz You have just spent the Winter months creating all of your gourd masterpieces. Now what? It’s time to get them out of your hands and into the hands of someone else. One way to get your art into the public eye and (more importantly) get it sold is to take a look at doing shows or festivals. But there are so many nowadays. Which ones should you do? To help in your decision-making, here are 7 insider tips for selecting where you will sell your art. 1. Location, Location, Location!(Im sure you have heard of this before) Things to consider: A. Is the venue close and easily accessible to the public and vendors? Is it close to Metropolitan areas or is it out in the sticks? What is the probability that someone will drive out to the show and spend money on gas, food, lodging, parking and entry fee, plus spend money on buying your art? B. Where is your booth or your art located at the event? Will it be visible, in the natural flow of foot traffic? Or are you hidden away and put in a last minute overflow area of the event? 2. Type of Venue Is it an art gallery show, city/county fair or a “mom and pop” festival? What is the draw? Fairs and art gallery shows are usually well-funded and have budgets for advertising the event, along with large followings and a target list of qualified buyers (which is what you want). The more people who know about the event, the more people will show up. “Mom and pop” festivals can be great! They usually take place on private property, but they generally have small to non-existent advertising budgets. They are generally less crowded and have a more relaxed atmosphere than the county fairs. They also tend to attract similar artists and niche buyers to your type of art. In other words, they may buy, but there will be less of them to buy. Therefore, consider how many other vendors and artists will be selling and competing for the smaller pool of buyers. Also, consider the fact that mom and pops put on festivals to promote themselves, their products, and provide a venue for others to do the same. Overall, mom and pop shows are a good place to network with other artists, find out where the “best” shows are, and build lasting friendships. For these shows, bring art in all price ranges (more in the smaller prices and less in the higher), plus offer supplies and information because the artists that attend are more likely to buy your supplies and info and just get their ideas from your art. County/City Fairs are in the business to have shows and draw large numbers of people to their venues. They need the people through the gate to help pay for all of the advertising they put out. They are not necessarily as concerned with how many buyers specifically. They are more focused on getting a lot people to the venue. The philosophy being that they get the attendance, and it’s up to you to make the sale, regardless as to whether they are qualified buyers or just looky-loos. Although usually well-organized, the overall feel as a vendor/artist is one of non-emotion. You are more of a number and will rarely interact with the show organizers. The huge plus to these types of shows is the number of people and chances you have to actually sell your art. It’s a great way to get exposure and to increase your mailing list. It is also a great way to reach people who may be interested in your work but would not have found you otherwise. For these shows, bring art in all price ranges (a nice mix of low to high) and offer a free drawing to collect their information (for your mailing list, of course). Art gallery shows are there to promote and sell art to as many people as possible. The draw for a gallery show is much more intimate. However, the buyers who walk into a gallery showing are more apt to buy, and better still, they are more likely to buy the higher priced art pieces. The art galleries definitely want to sell your art because they need to pay for their overhead. Therefore, the promotion and burden tends to rest on how well they can advertise and present each art piece. And due to the labor involved, they will spend more time, money, and effort promoting the higher priced pieces. Also, consider they have a reputation that they must maintain. Your effort to get into a gallery is limited by whether you are approved by the gallery staff. For these venues, select your very best. Keep in mind, however, that you will take a large cut in the price that you will receive. And remember that the ultimate price tag that is set for your art by the gallery must match what your art is worth to the buyer. You should never UP your prices to a gallery just to get more in the end. That will only hinder the sale of your work, not help. Go into a gallery, knowing that you may not make as much as you would normally on the piece but the likelihood of your work selling at that higher price is better. 3. Juried or Non-Juried This can work for you in two ways: If you are just getting started, and your art gets juried in with better art and well-known artists, it gives your art more credibility and possibly increases its value. It also feels good and builds confidence. If you go to non-juried shows, and your art is mixed in with beginners, stay optimistic; your art has a better chance to stand out! Either way, you will want to have an eye-catching and appealing display to draw the people and buyers to your work. 4. Age and Credibility of Show How many years has the show been on? Is it a new show or has it been around for many years? Chances are, if a show is new, it may have some bugs to work out and may not be run as smooth as a seasoned show. Plus, the likelihood is greater that not many people may know about it or attend. On the other hand, if Martha Stewart decided to put on a show/festival next weekend, chances are that it is going to be a huge draw! Find out who is putting on the show and who are the key sponsors. This could make a difference in the show’s success. On the flipside, no matter how seasoned or long an event has been held, if the promoters or organization is difficult, unorganized, not very accommodating, or only has a self interest attitude (not care whether you sell anything or not), they bank on making their money from you the vendor and public entry charge. No matter what, they are going to make their money. Otherwise, they would not put on the event, which is OK as long you make money also. Trust your gut feeling. If you have or get a negative feeling about a show, then chances are, so do others (artists, vendors, attendees), and quite possibly, you should reconsider. 5. Word of Mouth Ask anyone who has been to the show/festival you wish to attend. Ask about their personal experience; whether they were a vendor/artist or viewing (buying) public. Was the show worth the effort? Would they do it again? How were they treated? Can they offer any recommendations? These types of questions could save you a tremendous amount of money, time and head or heartache. 6. Facilities: Indoors or Outdoors Venues such as fairgrounds and art galleries tend to be very clean events. Usually held indoors, protected from the wind, sun and dirt/dust (which can be devastating to your art and health), have nearby parking, places to eat, clean bathrooms, first aid and are generally vendor and public friendly. Mom and pop festivals, if outdoors, can be dusty if not on pavement or grass. You will be exposed to the elements in one way or another. However, there are those who make the effort to accommodate the vendors and viewing public. They generally do very well and are usually fun to attend. They provide shaded or large covered areas to display your art such as a barn or massive canopies (keeping the elements like sun/drizzle, falling branches, and birds with digestive disorders away from you and your art) They will generally have concrete or grass flooring (handicap accessible), nearby vendor and easy public parking, food, and clean bathrooms. All these should be normal at any event. If the promoter/director cares about you and the facilities, you will most likely have a good show and come back again. 7. Costs What will it cost you when it is all said and done? Consider the time and money it takes for you to prepare, before, during and after the festival. Before you even leave your studio, it starts costing you. Application and registration fees, making and sending photos of your art to get juried, commissions or percentage of sales (which can eat your profits) getting booth set ups, gas, food, lodging, more gas, and other incidentals like buying art or more supplies. It all starts to add up! So estimate as close as you can, what you think you might spend and the minimum of what you realistically think you can sell and see if it is worth it to you. If you manage to break even, had a good time, met some new people and gained some experience, it may be worth it. The hope is to have a good time, sell art and make a profit at the end of the show. The drive home becomes a lot shorter and sweeter. The bottom line is, shows are a lot of work overall, and you want to do well personally, professionally, and financially. If you need to, make a list of pros and cons for each show. You are the only one who can decide which shows to do or not. Use these tips in making a decision on a show that is good for you and a win/ win for all involved. And most importantly have fun! Saturday, November 24th, 2007

By Cucan Pemo Are you being kept up late at night worried sick that youwould never be able to find or keep your true love becauseof a rival? Suspecting your date, lover or your spousehaving an extramarital relationship? Here’s what you coulddo so you could win back the one you love and keep them! (1) Show your partner you respect their choices more thananyone else. Do not do anything or say anything which forces your partnerto do things or see things your way! If they have to maketheir choice whether they want you or the other person, givethem no excuses to leave you for somebody else, show themyour respect! No one likes to live under the control ofanother person. Your partner will more likely choose you ifyou can show him or her that you are willing to give themthe freedom to make their own choices and respect his / herwishes. (2) Do not try to Compete Do not try to compete with your rival, if you have onearound. When you are competing, you are struggling, and whenyou are struggling, you create a lot of negative energyaround you, leading to unpleasant experiences with thepeople who just happen to be with you. Instead, try tocreate opportunities that lead to positive experiences, especially with your partner around. Let your partner feelthat they can feel more at ease when he or she is togetherwith you. Let your partner feel more comfortable when beingwith you than with somebody else. (3) Avoid discussing issues relating to your rivals. Whenever you are with your spouse or lover do not keepasking or questioning them on issues relating related toyour rival (Examples: “Where did you go yesterday?” “Whatdid you give her”, “Why does he / she do this”, you getwhat I mean). Asking such questions would only put hisdefense system on autopilot and his / her replies to youmight not be truthful too. Most often than not, suchdiscussions lead to unpleasant experiences with yourpartner, both of you might even fight or quarrel over aninsignificant issue and further ruin your relationship. Sogive your partner freedom of choice. Let them do whateverthey want and like, and you will find that they willappreciate your understanding. If your partner finds thathe/she can breathe easier when being with you than with theother person, they will come back to you, with no effort onyour part! (4) Stop clinging to your spouse or lover like sticky glue Recall the type of person you once were when you firststarted seeing and dating your lover or your spouse. That’person’ you once were is the person whom your lover orspouse once loved deeply. Be that ‘person’. When you werethat ‘person’, you were someone who did not cling to yourpartner like a parasite. You were independent, carefree, andfull of zest for life! This is the real ‘you’ whom yourpartner love and like to be with. So drop all thoseattachment. Practice detachment instead. If yourrelationship is failing, other people will tell you ‘Yourpartner has changed.’, or ‘People change. This is life.’Instead, pause for a moment and ask yourself “Has mypartner really change? Or is it I who have changed?” Haveyou changed to someone who has become too demanding in yourrelationship? Your partner love you for who you are. So ‘be’that independent person you once were! Ready to Move — Anywhere!

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

By Cathy Goodwin “I have lived in this city all my life. My family is here. I am pretty satisfied, but lately I’m getting restless. I want to move somewhere - anywhere. I was thinking of Seattle…:” Whenever I give a talk, somebody asks this question. If we’re in Miami, people want to move to Seattle. If we’re in Seattle, Miami sounds pretty good - especially if we’re in the rainy season. (1) Identify what you have now. Lisette said,”My whole family is here. We have family meetings every two weeks. They are very important to me.” (2) Get a sense of why are you restless. Is your career growing stale? Do you need to meet new people? A common response is, “I can’t find anyone to date.” Over the years, I hasve found that, when people are ready to commit to a partner, they seem to find just the right person, whether they’re in New York, San Francisco, or even Gainesville, Florida. But some people are ready to move. Sometimes people really do become happier after they’ve moved. Your true home may be a place you’ve never been. (3) Ask yourself, “What am I moving to?” Do you want a bigger city with more culture, more people, more diversity? Do you want to live in a place where you can afford to buy a house? Do you want a change of climate or a place near the water? “Moving without a job” and “Choosing a destination” are topics from my book, Making the Big Move. (4) Begin to visualize yourself living in the place you’ve chosen. See yourself walking the streets and driving the freeways. Feel the sun coming through the windows. Over time, your visualization will change. Sometimes it will disappear altogether. Don’t try to hold on: you’ll soon find a new goal. And don’t try to visualize a place you’ve never been. Visit first. Visualize later. (5) Expect surprises, once you admit you are restless and can visualize yourself already moved. I began visualizing a move to Philadelphia while I was living in Canada. I wasn’t sure how I’d get there or where I’d live or what I’d be doing. I just imagined walking around Rittenhouse Square, living in a great apartment with wide windowsills where the cats could sun themselves while I worked on the computer. The visualization came easily. Eventually I was offered a job in the Philadelphia area and found an apartment I loved. The cats did enjoy the windowsills (although they thought the low-flying helicopters were pretty strange birds) and I began writing my book there. How to Catch More Crappies than You Want

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

By Robert Benjamin Crappies are one of the best tasting fish I have ever eaten, I like them better then trout. The meat is pure white and is firm and full of good mellow flavour. Crappies are a panfish, similar to bluegill and sunfish. When I was a young man, a lot of local fishermen called crappie, ‘ calico bass ‘. Luckily for us fishermen they are considered a panfish and are not restricted in most areas, like other bass are when it comes to fishing laws. Here in Pennsylvania we are allowed to catch 50 crappies a day with no size limitations. Crappies are ‘little hellions,’ they are full of energy and despite their small size they can make a normal fishing rod bend to the breaking point and cause a reels drag to become active, the energy and taste are two reasons why crappies are such a great fish to catch. Crappies come in two types or varieties, there are black crappies and white crappies. Crappies live throughout the U.S in many ponds, lakes and streams, I guess if other panfish or even bass can thrive in the water, then crappie can also. Crappie look similar in size and shape to other panfish, except they are a lot more silver colored, with black spots, and they have upturned noses. They are actually a very nice looking fish, and the silver or shiny color shimmers in the sunlight. Crappies can be caught year around. In the spring and fall months they move near the shore areas, and in the summer they move out in more deeper and cooler water. They are probably the most active in the early spring months when they move towards the shores to spawn, they become very aggressive and tend to bite and attack anything that is cast or moves near them or the nest, making it pretty easy to get a stringer full of crappies in a short time in the spring season. The nests look like hollowed out depressions or dishes in the mud or gravel on the bottoms of the ponds and lakes. If you walk slowly around the edges of the water, you can see these nests and often see the crappie in and near them. Once you spot one of the nests, casting your bait near it will usually produce a quick strike. In the summer or warmer months, they often hang around stumps, trees, and other debris areas and underwater structures for shading and protection. Casting near these areas in the summer and warmer months will often be very productive for catching a mess of crappie. In the fall time of the year, they move towards the shores and become more aggressive again in their feeding and biting. This aggressive feeding and biting continues throughout the cold winter months, which makes crappie a great fish to catch while ice fishing in the winter. The best time to catch crappies is during the daylight hours, with early morning after sunrise and in the late afternoon towards early evening hours being the best times. Crappies love minnows with a passion, and when it comes to live baits there is no better choice than a small minnow. If you don’t have or cannot get live minnows, then use jigs or any such lure that looks as realistic as possible to a live minnow. But when you use an artificial minnow make sure you keep the lure pretty active, so it simulates a live minnow as much as possible, if the fake minnow just sits still, crappie have been known to look and then just pass by, they seem to prefer live minnows and bait instead of dead ones. Crappies have a abnormally soft mouth, so be aware that if you jerk your rod too hard, to set the hook, you can rip it right out of the crappies mouth, resulting in losing the fish. There is Computer Software that is made for crappie fishing as well as catching any type of fish. After keeping a few past records of fishing trips, this software will help you to easily calculate what days will be a great fishing day! Let Your Small Enterprise Be Flourished: Small Business Loans

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mary_Jones]Mary Jones Money is the livelihood for all businesses. No money, no business. You may have possessed a small enterprise, now you require money to get the business flourished. What would you do? You may be confused thinking about business loans, as your business is small. In such cases, you can arrange finance with small business loans. In addition, if arranging cash for embarking upon a new venture is your motto, you can also do that by availing small business loans. Generally, two types of small business loans are available in loan market. One is given for financing in existing businesses. These loans are mainly used for expanding businesses. On the other hand, the second one is available for gearing up a new venture. These loans can be used for purchasing new equipments, buying office premises and so on. However, whether you have a security or not, it would not create any obstacle in availing secured business loans, as these loans are available both in secured as well as unsecured form. From the name, it is easily understandable that pledging a security is the main requirement for availing the secured option. Any valuable object can play the role of security. But normally as security, home or other real estate, saving account, automobile are preferable. Contradictory to secured option, unsecured option claims no security. Therefore, this option is considered as apt for all types of tenants, like council tenants, housing executives, MOD tenants, PGs and so on. Due to the presence of security, secured small business loans offer borrowers to avail a higher amount, ranging from 3000-75000. The repayment period of these loans varies within 5-25 years. Since, these loans are secured on borrowers property, hence borrowers can avail these loans at a lower interest rate. But, there is a probability of collateral repossession in case the amount is not paid off. On the other hand, the unsecured option allows borrowers to borrow the amount, ranging from 1000- 10000 for 1-10 years. Though the absence of security minimizes the possibility of collateral repossession in this option, but it enhances the risk of lending money, for which lenders charge a high interest rate on these loans. But, by researching for a better deal, getting some relaxation on the interest rate is possible. Small business loans empower bad credit scorers as well to finance their small venture. It implies to all sorts of bad credit scorers including CCJs, IVAs, bankruptcy, defaults, arrears and so on. It can be said that small business loans are an exclusive opportunity for small business owners. Now they have also got a resource for funding their small enterprises. Tooth Whitening - What is Tooth Whitening

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

By Andrew G. Tooth whitening is the process of removing ugly brown or yellow stains from teeth. These stains can be caused by a number of things. Some of these may include smoking, age or caffeine. An effective teeth-whitening system will remove stains, bringing teeth back to a clean pearly white color. There are several products available for making teeth whiter and cleaner looking, all of them with varying degrees of usefulness and at varying prices. The most effective way of getting teeth white is by cosmetic dentistry, although this is also the most expensive method. Prices can run in excess of $1,000 per tooth. Some of the more inexpensive options that do produce results are: Bleaching with a laser. This method is done at your preferred oral healthcare professionals office. A solution is applied to the teeth, usually peroxide, Then a special laser light is used to remove stains. This method is very effective with most patients and results are instant. A treatment will take approximately 1 hour and cost around $400 to $1,000. Home whitening kits are a bleaching system that can be used at home. This method has varying degrees of effectiveness. Your oral health professional will customize a mouth guard for you in their office and provide you with a specially prepared solution that usually consists of peroxide. At your own convenience you can treat your own teeth. These treatments may take 1 hour to all night and need to be continued for between 7-14 days to get effective results. The home tooth whitening method will cost around $200-$400 for the complete treatment. Whitening toothpaste is not as effective as most other treatments and care must be taken to select a toothpaste that is not abrasive. If this method is used, it is best to consult your oral health care professional for information and use a recommended toothpaste. Whitening toothpaste is useful for getting your teeth cleaner but won’t drastically change the color of your teeth. The cost of a tube of recommended whitening toothpaste would be around $7 per tube. Before deciding on a tooth whitening product, it is a good idea to consult your oral health care professional. He or she will tell you which options are the best for you and your teeth. There is a method of teeth whitening available for every budget. Bear in mind that there is no guarantee that any of the above methods will work as effectively as it did for others. What to Consider in Getting a Small Business Loan

Monday, November 19th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Erik_Schimmel]Erik Schimmel Putting up a small business and being you own boss can be very exciting. However, it is quite expensive too. And among the most difficult task you can come across with is finding the money thats needed to start or to expand your business. If financial matters are bothering you, then you should know that there are lots of sources of capital to put up a small business. Why not avail small business loans from a bank or other lender? Small business loans are designed to give the customer with enough financial stability to make him launch a small business or to help him expand and keep up his existing business. Through small business loans, you can build up the capital you need for your business without relying on other persons. Banks and many other lending companies offer small business loans that come in various shapes and sizes. It is way easy to find a lender but what you need to look for is a small business loan that hits the correct balance between affordable down payment and low interest rates. Of course, banks and other lenders sometimes dont grant some small business loan applications for several reasons. And one of the reasons is failure to submit or present basic requirements of the lender. Among the major requirements for obtaining small business loans are the following: * Business plan * Education * Your credit history * Experience * Feasibility on the business that you want to put-up or to expand The first and most significant thing to come up with in order to get small business loans is a business plan. Your business plan or proposal has to convince the lending institution that granting your small business loan isnt a big risk. It needs extensive research and a lot of estimations. The business plan or proposal must be comprehensive to answer the possible questions a bank or a lender would ask. Among the usual questions are: 1.) How much capital do you require for your proposed business start-up or expansion? The amount needed to set-up or expand a small business should be clearly incorporated in the business proposal. If you are putting-up a business, your estimate of the start-up budget should be stated. It is always advisable to be accurate and to request just an adequate amount of money to invest intelligently. 2.) Where will the money be used up? It is necessary to put, in detail, the specific area where your dollar will be spent. You need to set the amount that will go to the operations, the assets or properties, or for the business debts. 3.) When will your small business loan be paid back? In your proposal, you need to incorporate a detailed explanation on how the small business loan can help you in your business. The technique here is to give thorough details, including financial reports as well as cash flow calculation, which will convince the bank and the lending institution how capable you are of repaying the loan by means of the anticipated long-term productivity of your proposed business. If possible, include in your proposal the amount of money you expect to make. 4.) What are you going to do if ever your small business loan request will not be granted? It is good to show to the lenders that you will not be discouraged if ever they turn down your small business loan request. Depict a determined and confident persona and tell them that youll not give up in looking for a bank or lender that will provide you with the money you require for your business start-up or expansion. As a wannabe owner of a small business, you need to have certain level of determination. Show to your lenders that you can manage your business well and that you know whats best for it. Another State Signs Up for Drug Importation from Canada

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Barker] John Barker Washington State joins the growing list of states that are allowing importation of Canadian Prescription drugs. The battle will still be the Federal government as the law still prohibits reimportation of Canadian Drugs although many Americans order safe prescription drug over the internet. Governor Christine Gregoire said “This bill says to the federal government, Show us what’s wrong with Canadian prescription drugs” This is a statement that says it all. How the federal government, the drug companies and the USDA all try to manipulate people into believeing that Canadian drugs are not safe. If that was the case, why do we have Americans driving up Canada to get their prescriptions???? Are they driving here to get bad medicine to hurt themselves??? It is unbelievable how Canada is thought of as a 3rd world in the eyes of some people. Congrats Washington, hope to help you and your citizens out asap.
